Getting started

What exactly is afdinger?
afdinger is a mobile app for consumers receiving quotes: from contractors, installers, movers, and other service providers. We audit the quote, give a clear verdict with a target price, and negotiate on your behalf by email until a better deal is on the table. You only pay if we save you money.
Which quotes can I upload?
We support PDF, photos (JPG/PNG/HEIC), and email forwarding. One file per quote; multi-page is fine. Quotes work best above €750. Below that, there usually isn't enough room to negotiate meaningfully.
What languages does afdinger work in?
The app and our communication with suppliers are in Dutch. The interface is available in Dutch and English.
Does the app cost anything to download?
No. The app is free. We charge a 25% success fee on the amount we negotiate off the original quote. No saving = no charge.
How long does an audit take?
Most audits are ready in under a minute. Complex quotes (many line items, technical installations) can take up to 5 minutes. You'll get a notification as soon as the verdict is in.
Does the app work outside the Netherlands?
We focus on the Netherlands for now. For Belgian or German quotes we can run the audit, but our negotiators work in Dutch. International rollout is on the roadmap for 2026.

Audit & target price

How does afdinger arrive at the target price?
We combine a growing dataset of anonymised Dutch quotes with live market data per region. For each line item we look at material and hourly rates, typical margins, and regional surcharges. The verdict comes out of that model, not a static list.
What does the confidence score mean?
The score (0-100%) shows how confident we are in the verdict. 90%+ means we've seen lots of similar quotes and the margins are clear. Below 70% we recommend adding extra information or getting a second quote.
What if afdinger isn't sure?
Then we say so. With low confidence you'll get an explanation, and we'll suggest fetching a second quote, asking the supplier a follow-up, or skipping the negotiation. We'd rather do nothing than give weak advice.
Can I add or correct figures myself?
Yes. Under each flagged line you can add context ("this item makes sense because…"). We factor it into the re-negotiation and, if you want, into the message we send the supplier.
Why do you flag an item as "unnecessary"?
Because we rarely see it in comparable quotes, or because it's a duplicate (e.g. transport already included in the hourly rate). We always show the reasoning behind the flag so you can judge whether it's fair in your case.

Negotiating

What address do you email the supplier from?
From a personal @afdinger.nl address, with your name in cc. We present as your intermediary, not as you. In our experience that works better than anonymous emailing and keeps the relationship with the supplier clean.
Do I see the email thread?
Yes. Every sent and received message shows up in the app under "My deals". You get a notification on each new message. You don't have to do anything, but you always know where things stand.
How long does a negotiation take?
Typically 3 to 7 business days. Sometimes faster (one email and the supplier moves), sometimes longer if multiple rounds are needed. We never pressure the supplier beyond what's reasonable. That backfires.
What if the supplier doesn't reply?
After 3 business days we send a single friendly reminder. After another 3 business days we close the negotiation as "no reply" and, if you want, offer a free quote from our partner network.
Can I stop mid-negotiation?
Yes, any time. One tap on "Stop negotiation" in the app and we send no more emails. You owe us nothing, because no saving has been realised.
What if I want to take over the negotiation?
Fine too. In the app pick "Take over and finish yourself". We stop, send you all the context we've gathered (analysis + the ongoing thread) and you continue. No charge unless a saving was already finalised.
Do you use my name in the emails?
Only your first name, and only if you opted in during onboarding. Otherwise we say "our customer". We never share your address details without explicit consent.

Success fee & payment

How is the 25% calculated?
On the amount we negotiate off the original quote, excluding VAT. Example: quote €10,000, final amount €8,000, saving €2,000 → success fee €500. No saving means no fee.
When is the fee charged?
Only after you accept the final quote and place the order. We then send a Stripe invoice, payable within 14 days.
Which payment methods do you support?
iDEAL, Bancontact, card payments and SEPA bank transfer: all via Stripe. No credit card required to use the app.
Do I get an invoice with VAT?
Yes. Every success fee is a service and includes 21% Dutch VAT. The invoice is downloadable in the app and automatically emailed. Suitable for sole traders who want to reclaim VAT.
What if the supplier reverses the discount later?
Email us within 30 days of the invoice with evidence (email thread, supplier invoice). We review it and refund the success fee in full. No fine print.
How do I request a refund?
Email support@afdinger.nl with subject "Refund" and your deal number (in the app under "My deals"). We reply within 2 business days with an explanation and, if the request is valid, a refund within 5 business days.

Partner network

When are partners proposed?
Only if the negotiation with your original supplier stalls or gets no reply. And only if you activate the partner offer. It never happens automatically.
Does that cost extra?
No. For you it's free. We receive about 20% commission from the partner if you accept their quote. It's baked into their standard rate. You pay no surcharge.
How are partners vetted?
We only work with partners who are KVK-registered, carry valid liability insurance, and have passed a short interview round with us. We monitor reviews and end partnerships in case of structural complaints.
How do I turn partner proposals off?
In the app under Settings → "Partner proposals" → off. You'll no longer receive suggestions; existing deals are unaffected.

Privacy & data

What does afdinger do with my quote?
We use it for your audit and, with your approval, for the negotiation. We may use anonymised price data to improve our model. We never share your quote with third parties outside the original supplier or, if you opt in, a partner.
Do you share my data with third parties?
Only with parties needed to deliver the service: the supplier (for the negotiation), Stripe (for payment), and our infrastructure (Google Cloud, in the EU). Full list in the privacy policy.
How do I delete my account and data?
Two options: in the app under Settings → "Delete account", or email privacy@afdinger.nl. Within 30 days everything is gone, including backups. We send a confirmation once it's done.
How do I export my data?
Email privacy@afdinger.nl with subject "Data export". Within 30 days you'll receive a ZIP with your quotes, audits, negotiation threads and invoice history in JSON + PDF.
Can I object to profiling?
Yes. We use your data to personalise your audit and generate better target prices. You can switch this off under Settings → Privacy → "Personalisation". Audit quality may then be slightly lower.

Account & app

Which iOS / Android versions are supported?
iOS 17 and up; Android 12 and up. Older versions may still work but won't be prioritised for bug fixes.
Lost my password, what now?
On the login screen tap "Forgot password" and enter your email. Within a minute you'll get a reset link. Not received? Check your spam folder or email support@afdinger.nl.
Logging in on a new device?
Install the app, log in with the same email, confirm with the verification code in your inbox. Your deals and invoices show up automatically.
App crashed, how do I report it?
Shake your phone in the app (3× quickly) to trigger shake-to-report, or email support@afdinger.nl with your deal number and what you were doing when it went wrong. Crash logs are sent anonymously via Crashlytics so we can reproduce it.
How do I change my email address?
Settings → Account → "Change email". You confirm both the old and new address with a code; afterwards all invoices and notifications immediately connect to the new address.

When afdinger doesn't help

Fair is fair: afdinger doesn't work for every quote. In these cases you're faster, cheaper or better served elsewhere.

  • Emergencies (leak tonight, broken boiler, car that needs to drive now). Negotiating by email takes time you don't have.
  • Amounts below roughly €750. The savings rarely outweigh the effort, and the relationship with the supplier can suffer.
  • Regulated tariffs: energy, insurance, telecom. Comparison sites (Independer, Pricewise) are more effective than negotiation there.
  • Your regular plumber or a fully-booked one-person shop. The leverage is low and hard negotiation is counter-productive.
  • Business procurement (B2B). Our flow is built for consumers; B2B has its own processes, VAT rules and liability.
